5 More Awesome Google Assistant Features

We previously wrote a post on some of the best features of Google Assistant. We wanted to cover some of the more advanced features today.

1.. One of the strong points of intelligent loudspeakers such as Google Home is at the neuralgic center of home automation. Although Google claims that it is already compatible with more than 1,500 smart home devices of more than 200 firms, which include Philips Hue bulbs, the intelligent thermostat of Nest and many others.

The truth is that Google is still far from realizing their full potential, but we are certain that in a very short time will make a quantum leap in relation to intelligent appliances.

Proof of this is the famous brand of robotic vacuum cleaners Roomba, and more recently the Conga line, featuring super vacuums like the Conga 5090. The new Roomba i7 can be ordered to clean a particular room in your home with Google Voice.

2. If you have installed Chromecast on your television, you can ask Google Assistant to put on a video clip such as a chapter of the series of the Doctor House.

It is clear that Google wants to add new features to its voice assistant. With this next update that will be available in Europe and Australia, it will show us how long we have been interacting with each application and we can add a maximum time limit to avoid excessive use.

Also, it is possible to go through the settings option, disable any type of notification during the hours you program. In short, it will be an App that shows where you spend most of your time and how you can better optimize your time.

3.- The communications company Vodafone, launched V-Home in April. This is a service that allows you to verify everything that happens in your home with voice commands as long as they are defined in V-Home by Vodafone powered by SmartThings by Samsung.

In other words, you can use Google Home mini and other Google speakers to control things with your voice. For example, you turn off a certain light or turn on the oven.

Thanks to the V-Home function “scenes”, it is possible to run several smart devices at once. For example, you can create the scene “tranquility” by telling the Google Assistant “Hey Google, activate tranquility”. It will automatically create a predefined environment by doing the following: dim the lights, start our favorite song and activate the airplane mode to receive no notification.

These options presented by Vodafone through V-Home are available in Vodafone One packages.

4. One option that incorporates the Google Assistant that we find really useful is that when you wake up, you can use the voice command “Hey Google, Good morning”. The voice assistant will give you all the information you have previously configured to start the day.

As for example; the headlines of the newspapers that you choose will be displayed, the forecast of the weather is shown, the appointments that you have foreseen for that day, the birthdays of relatives or friends, or any other option that you want. Let’s say it’s like your own personal secretary in the world of Artificial Intelligence.

By default, Google’s voice assistant will use the name you sign up for in their Google Home account to refer to you. However, if you wish, you can change the name and ask the Google Smart Speaker to address you with the name of your choice.

To make the change, just tell the Google assistant, Hey Google, call me (whatever you want), then ask if you want to confirm that name. Say yes and everything will be arranged. It is an option that has received less attention so we wanted to add it in this article.

5.- With Google Smart Speakers you will be able to translate a phrase or word in real time into any of the 2,000 language pairs that it can distinguish. This can be very useful if you have to visit a foreigner’s home and you need a fast and effective way of communication to understand each other.

What’s more, Google’s voice assistant can speak two different languages at the same time, being the only virtual assistant that at the moment has this capability.

In order to determine which language is being used, it is necessary for the moment that the voice commands are only in one language since you cannot combine two languages at the same time. Each question must be asked in only one language.
