New Transfer Feature in Dropbox Enable Sharing files with Third Parties

Dropbox has been a popular P2P sharing platform for many years. They don’t announce new features as often as other applications, since they have a good track record with creating great services already.

However, Dropbox did recently announce the development of a new feature – known as “Transfer.” This feature will provide a ton of opportunties for people using this platform to share content.

New Feature is a Testament to Dropbox’s Desire to Offer New Solutions to Customers

More and more people are choosing platforms like WeTransfer to share files with third parties. Since USB sticks relegated CDs and DVDs to near obsolescence, a large number of manufacturers decided to dispense with CD players on both desktop and laptop computers. A scenario that leaves us with a much smaller number of options when it comes to sharing all kinds of content.

And USB sticks are also suffering from that wear and tear that ended up with CDs. This is all due to storage clouds, where more and more people are storing all kinds of content. From Google Drive or iCloud to Dropbox, three of the most recurrent options nowadays. However, when it comes to sending files from one person to another, more and more people are choosing platforms like WeTransfer, where we can share content with third parties in a very simple and intuitive way.

How to share files in Dropbox Transfer
To use this service, we will only have to access the platform, add the content we want to send and establish a recipient. There is no need to create an account, or even know the recipient of the message first hand, so it is a very quick and easy option especially for work groups.

In view of the boom of this platform, Dropbox has moved to a new level. After more and more people have switched sides, Dropbox has introduced Transfer. A new platform, practically identical to WeTransfer, through which we can send files of up to 100 megabytes in a matter of seconds, as the company acknowledges in a statement: “As a rule, people use Dropbox to share. However, sometimes you need a solution to send a file and forget about it. Transfer is designed for times when you need to deliver large collections of files to clients and others outside your company”.

Up to 100 GB and unlimited space
After adding the content we want to share with third parties, Dropbox Transfer will send a link to the message recipient from which the files can be downloaded. You can also save it directly to Dropbox, where you will have the option to store it along with the rest of the files you have stored over the last few years.

Although it doesn’t allow you to send files of up to 2 GB in weight, as is the case with WeTransfer, it becomes a more than interesting option for sharing photos and videos in a quick and easy way. In fact, Transfer has a professional version (worth between 10 and 15 euros per month) through which we can enjoy unlimited space in our cloud and transfer up to 100 GB.

But that’s not all. Users who choose this option can also protect the link with a password, choose expiration dates and even customize the background of the transfer page. Among the different options you will also find a statistics panel from which you can analyze how many people have downloaded the file. In short, Dropbox is getting ready for the WeTransfer boom. Will it be able to overthrow it?
