5 easy tricks to reduce PDF file size

PDF files are excellent when it comes to compiling information in one place. You can include images, bookmarks, and graphics to make your work more comprehensive.

The beauty of PDFs is that they are easy to create. But there’s one problem, sending huge PDFs files can be a problem because most email service providers have a limit in terms of the size of files to be sent.

However, you don’t need to worry there are a number of ways that you can use to reduce PDF files to the required size. Here are 5 tricks to reduce the size of a PDF file:

  1. Resave your PDF

Resaving doesn’t mean that you do the work from scratch. Resaving is a simple, yet effective way of reducing the size of a PDF file. This technique helps in eliminating unwanted or unnecessary tags, objects and compresses images.

This is possible using free online software or any program with a “print PDF” option. Below are four simple steps to follow:

  • Open the PDF
  • Select the save/export
  • Choose PDF as the file type
  • Click save
  1. Compress PDF with Nitro or Adobe Acrobat

It doesn’t matter whether you are using Nitro PDF Professional or Adobe Acrobat, it is possible to reduce the size of a PDF file within a few minutes. Using the “save” feature is faster compared to using the “save us” option.

All you have to do is open the PDF editor on your tools bar – while in Acrobat, click “Save As” once more. Lastly, if you are using Nitro PDF Professional, go to file, save As, select the file you want to compress and click save.

  1. Get rid of unnecessary objects from your PDF file

This is another effective way of reducing the size of your PDF file. Some of the popular tools include Nitro PDF and Adobe Acrobat. Normally, the size of a PDF file increases because of things such as bookmarks, links JavaScript, and form fields.

But when using Adobe Acrobat or Nitro PDF professional, this problem can easily be resolved. You will have to follow a few steps in order to remove the unwanted objects so as to reduce PDF size.

  1. Try to avoid scanning PDFs

Most people think that in order to create a PDF or combine several documents into one large PDF file, they need to print all the documents and scan them together. However, what they don’t realize is that files that are converted electronically are usually larger in size compared to scans.

  1. Clear unused space using a PDF optimizer

Your PDF file could be having unused space that you aren’t aware of. It is good to identify what is really eating up space in your PDF. Getting rid of this unused space is an effective way of minimizing the size of a PDF file.

Bottom line

PDFs are a great way of compiling a wide range of information including images. But what happens when you want to send a large PDF file? You will have to compress PDFs to a minimum size that can easily be sent as an attachment.
