Product Details

The Internet holds a wealth of information, entertainment and connections anywhere around the globe. The Internet also holds a wealth of danger in electronic form, and Bitdefender Total Security offers the right product mix to help secure your PC , protect your data, and hide your identity. There are three modes from which to operate the software: Basic, Intermediate or Expert. The basic view is the most simple interface I’ve ever encountered. The three main icons: Security, My Tools, and Tune Up are the only options shown. Each posses a drop down list of menu choices with more options, and then adjust the various levels of protection to fit your needs.

The intermediate mode gives a tabbed layout of the software’s various security functions and backup tools. Under the security tab lies a snap shot of virus protection, spam and malware detection, parental controls, and the firewall.

The Expert view is more detailed and presents all functions of the software to target a specific area. This view is more suitable for experienced computer users.

Parental controls on the security tab give parents the power to restrict websites and browsing activities (times, and function-i.e.- no chatting) and email the child’s activity to the parent’s email for review. These controls are set via the website and enforced during the child’s internet sessions.

The Tune Up Tab offers disk defragmenting, a registry cleaner, performance optimizer and the file shredder. Most end users believe that when they delete a file it is removed, but this is not the case. Bits and pieces still exist and can present security risk. The file shredder will permanently and completely destroy a file or folder contents and remove any file fragments from the drive with no other recourse but a backup(if made before the file’s destruction), if the file is needed in the future.

Many companies are offering online backup and storage of data via a web portal or cloud offer. Bitdefener has included this tool for your data storage. Backup can be stored on the local hard drive as well.

Data can be encrypted while on your computer from the file storage tab. First you must create a vault, select it’s location, vault size and choose a file encryption password. You choose a drive letter and free space of the hard drive is then assigned as the password protected vault and shows up in Windows.

The network tab allows the end user to create a home network that will be protected by bitdefender.
