Can Samsung Galaxy Alpha Contend Against The Best?

Alpha_PDP_MainFeature_1280x664px_v1_BatteryThe Samsung Galaxy Alpha is still at the beginning of its sizzling days as it was only introduced in August 2014 and released in the market in September. It made some news because it’s only few months (February 2014) that its sister Samsung Galaxy S5 walked in and started to make waves among consumers.

Now if you are asking how it is different with the GS5 since we got intrigued of its sudden appearance, we will find out now.

In terms of design, at first glance, the Samsung Galaxy Alpha has a sleeker design than the GS5. Unlike the GS5 versions that have tough plastic body construction, the Alpha has a good-looking metal-trimmed bezel that makes you feel its compactness.

When you look at the character of the Alpha and GS5 both have the same buttons, ports and features. The good news is, the Alpha also has its heart rate sensor and finger print lock features but absent of microSD card slot and IR blaster. The GS5 is slightly bigger with 5.1 inch screen and actually weighs 145 grams while the Alpha only has 4.5 inch screen at 115 grams. With its lesser dimension and weight, the Alpha is sure nicer to hold and easy to carry. However, the Alpha lacks the water and dust resistant feature of the GS5. That means if you accidentally drop it on the pool or on the beach, it’s almost a goner.

Turning to resolution, the GS5 beat the Alpha in this aspect but not quite. The GS5 has 1080 x 1920 Super AMOLED display, the Alpha fared quite lower with 720 x 1080 display. With the Alpha’s Pentile pixel, this makes its resolution appear less sharper compared to GS5’s.

On the other hand, if we based the Kelvin measurement both of the phone’s color temperature, the GS5 showed a rating of 8183 kelvins while the Alpha gathered 6840 kelvins. What does this tells us? That means even the GS5 has sharper and crispier display it produces over-saturated color reproduction but not definite compared to Alpha’s more balanced color. So significantly, the Alpha still has a good fight in the aspect of resolution display. It also has wide viewing angle and have the same brightness outputs as with the GS5.

The Alpha and the GS5 are also identical in their common software features though the GS5 is featured with Air View gestures which according to users is not very useful at all.

Specifying the main specs of the Alpha it has these:

• Internal Memory: 32 GB (ROM), 2GB RAM
• Camera: 12 MP Auto-focus (back), LED Flash with 2.1 MP (front)
• OS: Quad Core 1.8 GHZ Cortex-A15 & quad-core 1.3 GHz Cortex-A7
• Display: 4.7” Super AMOLED touchscreen
• Bluetooth version: Bluetooth v4.0
• Battery life: 9 hours with internet usage

Many people assumed that the Alpha also rests between the Galaxy S5 Mini and the GS5 – thinner than the Mini but smaller than the GS5. They may be correct because it is a bit advanced from the Mini but a little bit short against GS5 in terms of extra features. But if compared this to iPhone6 or to GS5, it may even take a snap against these world renowned phones in the arena of world sales.

Essentially, the Alpha offers lower cost but loaded with comparable specs. So it’s no wonder if lots of consumers will see it as an amazing mini-android handset that has its own right in waving its flag. Who knows in the coming days, we may get surprised that the Alpha is already taking a large chunk of the pie among the world’s most wanted android phones.
