Site Navigation

There are several methods of navigating the site, including the main menu, side menu, and a crumb trail. There are also context menus and previous/next links within guides, articles and tutorials, and finally a site map giving an overall site image.

There were a number of principle aims with navigation design for the site:

  1. Accessibility – the site had to be as navigable as possible for people with all abilities.
  2. From any given page any other location in the site should be reachable within two clicks if possible, three at most.
  3. Choice – providing a number of options for the visitor to find their way around.
  4. Provide a sense of location – the navigation should show where in the scheme of the site the visitor is from any given page

Of course, the purpose of navigation systems on any website is to allow the user to get around the site easily and find the information they’re after. It’s hoped that the consistency and the options available will enable all visitors to do just that, but if you have any problems or comments then
