DCT

Definition: Discrete Cosine Transform: a coding methodology - similar to Fast Fourier Transform - used, for example, in the JPEG and MPEG image compression algorithms to reduce the number of bits for actual data compression. DCT converts data into sets of frequencies, the first being the most meaningful. Latter frequencies are stripped away based on allowable resolution loss.
