CD-ROM XA
Definition: CD-ROM Extended Architecture: a hybrid format, promoted by Sony and Microsoft, that combines CD-ROM and CD-i capabilities. The extension adds ADPCM audio to permit the interleaving of sound and video data to animation and with sound synchronisation. It is an essential component of Microsoft's plan for multimedia computers and also the physical format for Kodak's Photo CD format.
