Definition: Integrated Device Electronics or Intelligent Drive Electronics: a drive-interface specification for small to medium-size hard disks (disks with capacities up to 504Mb) in which all the drive's control electronics are part of the drive itself, rather than on a separate adapter connecting the drive to the expansion bus.
