Hi,

Wondered if anybody could help me with an issue that I am having.

I have several memory cards ranging from 512mb to 4gb but I recently purchased an 8gb SD card for my camcorder.

I use my Epson R300 as a card reader and it works on all cards exept my new 8GB one.

Given the ituation I returned the card to the supplier and they have subsequently tested it and they inform me that it is working perfecly on their machine. The card records fine when inserted in to the camera and it plays back fine through the camera.

Now the supplier is hinting that the issue could be that my card reader (the Epson) might not be compatable.

Just wondered if somebody could clear up two things for me:-

1. What should I look for in a new card reader that will have no issues in reading HC cards - are commpatable readers a different spec.

2. Is there some kind of firmware available for my printer that will solve the problem. I have looked on line but had no success.

Hope to hear from some of you.

Thanks,

David.

I would guess that your R300 doesn't support the high capacity SD cards, although it's interesting you say it works with 4GB cards because I think these are HC. Anyway, some details here: http://www.steves-digicams.com/pdf/sdhc.pdf

If there are any updates to the R300 they should be on Epson's website under support. However, I believe this printer is now discontinued and I don't know Epson's support policy for such products. Their website might explain more.

Any latest SDHC card reader should be compatible with current cards, but of course product specs are continually evolving. It's a bit naughty to not make them backward compatible though. Still, SDHC is supposed to be good for up to 32GB so a new card reader should last for a while.

Hello ,

I too am having an issue with the same thing only i have a 2 gig which is not an "HC" card and a 4 gb which is and neither one work in the sd slot on my r300 printers card reader....could this be a possible driver issue with the printer itself...Other card formats that i have work great.

Hi guys, the Epson R300 does not support SDHC memory cards, only the standard SD format (and also Compact Flash Type I and II, MultiMediaCard, Microdrive, xD-Picture Card, Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO, Memory Stick Duo, MagicGate Memory Stick, SmartMedia, Secure Digital and MiniSD).

SD cards range from the lowest capacities up to 4GB and SDHC (High Capacity) memory cards conform to a newer standard and are not available in less than 2GB capacity. SDXC is the latest standard by the SD Card Association that implements 64GB in SD format!

Techwhore28: The only thing I can suggest is that your 4GB SDHC is faulty.
