Regcure Pro is from the same makers of PC Health Advisor. The user interface of PC Health Advisor is way better then Regcure Pro so if you are considering a purchase I would just go with the PC Health Advisor. See the video review for more insight on this. Regcure is a good registry cleaner but as stated the interface is not as slick as their other product.

Read the PC Health Advisor Review or Download PC Health Advisor Here. Same program with a better interface.

Regcure Pro Features:

Repairs and cleans windows registry

Manage Star-up programs

Scans for Active Malware

Schedule cleaning times

Manage Windows Restore Points

Cleans Junk Files from Computer

Built in Defrag

The free trial version of Regcure Pro is limited. In order to have all the above features you will need to purchase the product.

Regcure Pro Video Review

Regcure Pro Review

The install process will only take you a few minutes. Nothing out of the ordinary here. Just hit the next button till the product is installed. Once installed you will be at the overview screen. From here you can do a system scan. You may also hit the System Scan on the left side of the program to run the scan. This section is were the overall health of your PC is given.

The System Scan section is a little annoying to me. Once the scan is done a voice tells you how many errors you have on your system. I hate voice programs. If it’s not going to sound human why even have it. Does nothing to benefit the end user. It’s also annoying that if you move to another section of the program and then come back to the System Scan section the scan starts all over again. Even if you did not repair what it found in the first place. The program should remember that a scan already happened and it should already know the results of the last scan and prompt you to make the repairs. I have no issues with it asking if you want to run another scan but it doesn’t. Just starts the scan again.

Another item I do not like is the program making the end user feel it has more critical errors then what’s really there. It calls my junk temp files critical. This is a very poor representation of the data. If anything it may call the files to my attention but not make a big deal out of it. Not like it’s actually effecting my computers performance.

The Restore Point Manager is the place to manage all the Windows restore points on your system. I like it better then the Windows version of the same thing. A restore point is created before the program does any cleaning. That way if something goes wrong you can revert back your computer. The main times I tend to use the Restore Manager is after a Windows update comes down and messes up my computer. It makes it very easy to restore your computer to a date and time when it was running good.

The Start-up Manager is the place where you are going to get a nice bump in processes power. Go through all the programs you don’t want auto-starting on you and un-check them. Once this is done you will be asked to re-boot your computer. By eliminating most of these programs you will free up a ton of processing power. I have seen computers boost their speed by 300% from just eliminating these kinds of programs. Those were older computer mind you. Most systems will not see that kind of improvement but it should be a noticeable boost for most end users.

Defrag is a nice harddrive tool to use. While Windows does have this tool already it’s nice it’s included. In the Tools section you will find the Defrag tool. It may take an hour or even more to run but once done it will help to boost access times. This may help you when you are trying to load up a big program or file.

The Setting section is for setting up scan times and overall control of RegCure Pro. Each section is fairly self explanatory. I would advice most users to set the program to scan once a week for junk temp files and registry cleaning and then once a month for defrag. Nothing else is really needed.

Regcure Pro is not a bad program. Overall the end user can get a faster computer from using it. I like the PC Health Advisor interface better and as it’s from the same maker and really the same product just a different name I would go with that version. The price starts at around $29.97. This is comparable and with in the price range of most other registry cleaning products. With Regcure Pro and PC Health Advisor you get more bang for your buck over normal registry cleaning programs. Overall we rate this product a buy.

When most people think of using a search engine, the name “Google” is usually synonymous with getting the most relevant results. There are other search engines available, but Google still holds the lion’s share of the market. There are also ways to craft a particular search to really narrow down the results to be exactly what you’re looking for. In fact, there are so many ways to do this, that using these methods is nearly worthy of being a programming language all of its own. In addition to common search results, there are also a few other neat little tricks that we’ll get into later on that can help save time and a lot of headache, but first, we’ll start with the basics.

Depending on what you’re looking for, sometimes the results can be ambiguous. The first method to narrowing searches is to use quotation marks around specific phrases you’re looking for in a result.

For instance, instead of typing something like:
nasa space pictures solar system
Instead, try:
nasa space pictures “solar system”

Usually, the more words that are in quotations, the more narrow the search result will be, as it encompasses less general data and instead focuses on more specific data as a contextual guidline. These searches can be further narrowed downby using specific keywords (AND, OR, NOT) in caps, but it’s often easier to use their shorter notations (+, -, |) respectively. Using the last example above, we’ll illustrate how these work.

Using the aforementioned search term, we can expand the results to include either nasa space pictures OR “solar system”:
nasa space pictures | “solar system”
To add an additional search result to the original query, we’ll opt to omit pictures of the Sun, or add them, depending on which term we’re looking to include:
nasa space pictures “solar system” -Sun nasa space pictures “solar system” +Sun

Wildcards and synonyms can also be included in these parameters as well. A wildcard is represented by the * (asterisk) symbol, and synonyms are used before the word that’s to be used with ~. To illustrate how this works, we’ll create another search query, and afterwards, translate it to a more human readable format.
nasa space pictures “solar system“ -Sun
Becomes:
* space ~pictures “solar system“ -Sun
Which translates to ANY space (pictures, images, etc) “solar system” NOT Sun.

How these additional search parameters are implemented is entirely up to the user to decide, and the results are only limited by the amount of data that’s being searched. Given how large Google’s database are, that’s a lot of data that can be filtered. These search queries also apply to Google’s image search as well. Now that the basic searches are out of the way, here are some other interesting things you can do with Google’s search engine.

To filter search results by text, simply use one of the following:
intext:[parameter]
inurl:[parameter]
intitle:[parameter]
intext:[parameter]
inanchor:[parameter]
For instance, if you type intext:solar system, the results that are returned will all contain relevant results in regards to having “solar system” somewhere in the body text.

If you want to find webpages that have a particular search term in their hyperlinks, simply use inanchor:[parameter], or if you want to find webpages that have said search item in the page title, simply use intitle:[parameter]

During the course of your search, if you’re looking for a particular filetype, (such as pdf, doc, txt, etc), use filetype:[parameter].

Also, of use, results can immediately be limited to a specific site with site:[parameter], or use related:[parameter] find results that are related to a specific search term, similar to synonyms, but with results instead of words.

If you’re interested in finding out information about a particular site, using info:[parameter] should usually suffice in bringing up site info.

All of the above options can be used on their own, or in conjunction with a full-fledged search. Finally, there are some other interesting tools that you can use with Google to shorten the length of time that you may spend looking for other types of results and/or searches:

To find a definition for a particular word – define:[parameter]

In addition to using simple mathematics into the search bar, you can also use some higher order math functions using the following list:
To denote an exponent use ^. For instance 2^2
For square roots, use sqrt([parameter]), and sine, cosine and tangent functions are sin(), cos(), and tan(), respectively.
To calculate logarithms (base e), use the ln([parameter]) function, for base 10 use log([parameter]), and for base 2, lg([parameter]).
For factorials, use [parameter]! If you need to unit conversion, simply type in the appropriate unit, to, and the unit to be converted to (1 mile to feet).

As extensive as this powersearch tutorial is so far, there’s still more:

To search for movie showtimes in the US, use movie:[parameter] To see weather forecasts for various geographic locations, use weather [parameter]. To find up-to-date stock values, use stock:[parameter] To use US directory listings for phone numbers, names and/or locations, use the phonebook: query. You can also type in a US area code to find out where the area code is located. To find out what time it is in another country, simply use time:[parameter] For Google’s page caches, use cache:[parameter] for the latest cached page of a particular site, and use link:[parameter] to find out where a particular site is linked from.

These are pretty much all the methods you’ll need to powersearch for anything Google related. Given how many ways there are to filter the data, it’s pretty obvious why Google still remains the dominant search engine when it comes to finding things on the internet.

Sometimes, when you turn on your computer, it seems that windows takes forever to start up. There are several causes for this problem but one of the most common is because there are too many applications at startup. Having one or two applications that run at startup, usually isn’t an issue, but any more than four or five can quickly turn into a serious problem, as half a dozen programs or more will invariably compete for memory. There are many commercial solutions that offer to automate this process, but it’s more important to learn how to do it manually, so that way as a consumer, you save money by not spending it unnecessarily.

The first method, but not the most extensive, is using the System Configuration Utility. This program can be started by entering “msconfig” in Start>Run, or typing “msconfig” at the command prompt. There are several tabs, but the one to be concerned with is the one labelled “Startup”. This contains a list of all the applications that are initialized when windows starts up. Generally speaking, it’s safe to disable all of the startup items in this tab, since they’re not truly critical windows services. This rule of thumb doesn’t always hold true, so it’s important to familiarize yourself with what applications, if any, are system critical and which ones aren’t. The other tabs, with the exception of “Services” (which will be covered later), will serve little purpose to the average user, and won’t really help achieve what we’re set out to accomplish, which is to speed up the computer’s performance by removing startup items.

Also keep in mind that msconfig.exe’s startup tab only deals with startup items located in the following areas of the windows registry, with the exception of the last two, being located in folders on the actual hard drive itself:

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\Run
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\Load
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
C:\Documents and Settings\{Username}\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

The next method of handling more startup items is one that should only be performed by intermediate to advanced windows users with some expertise in properly handling the windows registry. By running regedit.exe, the following locations can be edited in case there are applications not corrected by the aforementioned method:

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServicesOnce
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\Run
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServicesOnce
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnceEx
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\Run
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Userinit

The last, often unnecessary, but sometimes needed method occurs not with third party applications, but windows components and services themselves, which sometimes are enabled by default, but are incompatible with hardware, or at times, unneeded given the constraints of the computing environment that windows is installed under. Keep in mind that this last option should only be done by a user or administrator with extensive experience regarding system services and components.

Enter “services.msc” into either Start>Run or at the command prompt. The Windows Services Manager will appear, and give a detailed list of all services and componenets present on the current system. Right clicking and selecting “Properties” will allow you to set the service to manual, automatic, or disabled. As stated before, only use this method if you are entirely sure of what you’re doing, as disabling some critical services can have an adverse affect on how Windows itself will operate. Even though there are many commercial solutions available on the internet offering to speed up your computer’s performance by disabling startup items, most of the tasks that are offered can be achieved simply by using standard tools that are provided with Windows by default, thus saving you time and money in the long run.

If you are still having problems managing your Windows startup, some registry cleaners can help you out. Check here for our registry cleaner reviews

Mozy is currently offering free 2GB online data backup accounts. NO credit card or any other bull is needed to sign up for the service.

Mozy is one of our top picks for an online data backup solution. For all those that have been wanting a online data backup service now is the time to jump in. The install process only takes about a minute. 2GB is not a huge amount of space but at the same time you should be able to save a few thousand documents to the online server. This is great for all the SUPER important files you can’t afford to loose.

I have been using Mozy now for around 2 years. I do pay 6 bucks a month for a TON more space but that is because I have a business and need a lot of data backed up. I have used Carbonite in the past to backup my files but bang for buck Mozy is the better choice.

Get your free 2GB Account Here Through This Special Offer

Of course mozy has other backup options that are paid. MozyHome for instance starts at just under 6 bucks a month for 50 GB of data backup storage. With MozyHome you can even access your files from your mobile device. For just 3 bucks more you get a total of 125 GB.

If you are looking for a local data backup option you should read our view Nova Backup Review Here. Nova offers a very cost effective way to backup your files locally and create images of your computer. I even created a walk through video showing you exactly how to use the software.

Program: Stellar Phoenix Excel Recovery

Company: Stellar Data Recovery

Supported OS: Windows NT, 2000, XP, Vista, 7

Price: $49 USD

Overall Rating: 10 out of 10

What It Does:
Stellar Excel Recovery works on corrupted files in your Microsoft Excel program. It will repair or recover items for you.

Installation:
Installation is quick, as in under 15 seconds. It takes up very little space- about 10MB.

Details:
Stellar Phoenix Excel Recovery will warn you about any excel sheets that have certain formulas in them, as they may need certain extra add ins to cover these formulas. Most people will have no such problem, but if you do happen to be one of them, they give you all the information you will need and show you where to go.

The next screen asks you where you want to search for you excel files.

Once selected, Stellar Phoenix Excel Recovery gets to work.

The program will show you any files detected once the scan is finished.

I selected the largest file to recover/repair, so as to get a good idea of how long the process will take, then I just hit the “Scan” button.

It scanned this file in about 15 seconds and was done.

Once finished, you can then check for accuracy and safely recover/restore the file in question.

Ease Of Use:
Stellar Phoenix Excel Recovery is very easy to use. I think even the most novice of users will have no problem setting it up and using it.

Every Page, Image, URL and Search are recorded on your computer when you are online. Often times a cache stays in your browser so if you just started to type in the first letter of a domain the recent sites you visited starting with that domain show up.

With people using multiple browsers like Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari and Chrome it can be very hard to hide your online tracks.

Perhaps the worst part of all this is all these files build up over time. I had one instance on a friends computer that had over 8 Gig’s of just junk temp files on his computer. That is a whole lot of history!

Remo Recover Pro for Windows is a good product. It is very easy to use and does get a decent recovery rate. It takes up a little more space than their competitors, but with all the options, like recovery for files, media and partitions, it is not hard to see why.

Purchase Remo Recover (Windows) Pro here

Program: Remo Software Remo Recover Pro

Company: Remo Software

Supported OS: Windows XP, 2003, 2008, Vista, 7

Price: $39 Basic Edition, $49 Media Edition, $99 Pro Edition

Overall Rating: 6 out of 10

What It Does:
Remo Recover Pro will help you recover data loss from a number of reasons, including deleted partitions and unintentional file deletion.

Installation:
This product does take up a little more space then that of its competitors. Installation time was about three minutes.

Details:
When you have the software installed, you will see three options for you to choose from.

If choosing “Recover Files”, you will then see two more options available for you. Since they both seemed to do the very same things on the test I performed, I wonder why they even give you two options.

The only difference I found was that the “Recover Lost Files” option allows you to select what it is you want to scan for.

This was the result I received at the end of my scan.

You can go back to “Recover Lost Files” to select specific scans.

Since I knew what was missing on my drive, I scanned for the files I knew would be missing, which was mostly pictures.

The scan was quick; it took under five minutes to complete.

I basically ended up with the same results.

The “Recover Deleted Photos” and “Recover Lost Photos” is very similar to searching for files, except that they look specifically for multimedia files.

The last option on the first screen is that of the partition recovery.

Below you will see a shot of Remo Recover looking for partitions.

Once found, you will be asked which you actually want to be recovered. After you choose, the files will then be displayed.

Ease Of Use:
Remo Recover is very easy to use and even the most novice of users should be able to handle its interface.

Summary:
Remo Recover did take awhile longer to install than most recovery products, but that is mostly do to the larger size of its program. The interface is easy to use, and the recovery rate was right around 80% for photos and media options. While this is not great, it is much better than some of the other products available out there.

PROS: Remo Recover recovered over 50% of files and over 80% for photos/media.

CONS: Takes up considerably more space than its competitors.

I usually like EaseUS products. They have awesome partition programs and overall have some great products. Their Data Recovery Wizard program is not one of their best products. While it is easy to use and does do a nice job, it isn’t as good as Recover My Files or Remo Recover Pro.

» Purchase EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard Here

Program: EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard 5.5.1

Company: EaseUS

Supported OS: Windows 2000, XP, Vista, 2003, 2008 R2 SP1, Windows 7 SP1

Price: $69.95 USD

What It Does:

Data Recovery Wizard is designed to find/recover files and data in the unfortunate event of data loss, due to both human error and computer problems.

Installation:

It took under 60 seconds to install and takes up about 17MB of disk space.

Details:

Once I installed Data Recovery Wizard, I put it to use. I used and old hard drive, some old software and purposefully deleted a partition.

I had three options upon installation and went in order, from left to right.

I then selected ” search for all lost files automatically”. This is what happened.

I then hit “Next” to detect all drives attached to my machine. Then the program asked me which drive I wished to scan for.

When I selected the appropriate drive, I was warned that if I felt the drive was incomplete or corrupted, that I should opt for a complete recovery.

The above screen was shown both before and after the search for the drive with a deleted partition. It meant that I had to perform a complete recovery for this drive.

I was given a choice as to which option I wanted to select for this specific partition scan. I chose the most recent one.

Data Recovery Wizard then attempts to build a raw file tree from the recovered partition information, although it is not written to the drive, and then it started scanning for files to be recovered.

Data Recovery Wizard then attempted to find all possible files on the drive that it could. This can be good, but it can take a lot of time to recover this data. But, as this does offer the best results, it is probably the best way to go.

I got tired of waiting, so I cancelled the scan and looked to see what it found so far.

While smaller files are usually easier to check for integrity, there were a few larger archives that also looked pretty easy to check.

The process took longer than I though it would. Data Recovery Wizard recovered about 588MB of data. When I went to inspect the files found, I discovered many of the large files found were not fully recovered and some were even corrupt.

This last option for recovering the partition is very similar to the steps of a complete recovery, but it only searches for partition data. I did manage to restore my partition, but most of the original data didn’t hold, because the drive had been compressed using the NTFS file system. Here are some screenshots you can expect to see. I did do another test case after this and had success in recovering a corrupt partition. Your results may be similar.

Ease Of Use:
EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard is easy to use and overall has an uncomplicated interface.

Summary:
I found EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard’s performance to be a bit lacking. It was quick to install, didn’t take a lot of space on your hard drive, and easy to use, but I really feel there are much better options out there.

PROS: Fast installation, minimal disk space requirements, easy-to-use interface.

CONS: It takes awhile for the data recovery scans to actually finish. While this isn’t unusual for data recovery software, this takes exceedingly longer than other programs.
